Learning to read
The Ducklings are enjoying learning to read during our guided reading sessions each week. They hold their books with care, turn the pages one at a time and tell a story from what they can see in the pictures. They have been predicting what might happen next and answer how and why questions.

Finding 1 more and 1 less
This week in maths we have been saying the number that is 1 more or 1 less than a given number. We were able to check our ideas by using real objects to either add 1 more or make 1 less by taking one away.

In mathematics, with our talking partners, we have compared two amounts and decided which group has more and which group has less or fewer.

Junk modelling
This week the Ducklings have enjoyed making models using a variety of junk materials and tools. There have been lots of opportunities for speaking and listening while the children discuss what they are going to make together and how.

Exploring our sense of touch
The Ducklings have been exploring their sense of touch. Outside today they hunted for different objects and sorted them according to whether they felt hard, soft, rough or smooth.

Gross motor fun
Using large tools such as sweeping brushes helps to develop our gross motor skills which in turn will eventually lead to helping to develop our fine motor skills for things such as writing! We had fun in the sun today, sweeping the soapy water.

Today in maths we have been ordering the numbers to 20 and then finding out the number that is 1 more or 1 less than a particular number.
