Autumn Open Afternoon in Ducklings

Measuring height and weight
In Mathematics this week the children are working on open ended activities to measure the height and weight of Autumn vegetables. Here, the boys are placing vegetables in height order after weighing them using scales.

Funky Hedgehogs
This week we have been using our funky fingers to make hedgehogs using matchsticks and potatoes. The children have also been naming their hedgehogs. This one is called Mrs Lees Watmough!

In mathematics this week we have been matching numbers to amounts. The children have been using numicon to count and match to Autumn numbers.

Hunting for shapes
In Mathematics this week we have been searching for 3D shapes outside. The children have been using their new knowledge of shape to find she's all around us.

Letters and Sounds
This week we are beginning to look at our first letters and sounds. The children are encouraged to apply sounds they know in their writing, be brave and 'have a go'.

Where's the baby dragon?
The children were astonished to discover a large dragon's egg had hatched in school! We went on a mission to find the baby, searching with magnifying glasses and hunting in the garden.

Reading day in Ducklings
Today was filled with excitement when a dragon visited our school for reading day. We discovered footprints, an enormous nest, scorch marks, eggs and dragon slime. The children have loved looking for clues and listening to stories about dragons.

Making birthday cakes
Today we have celebrated a few birthdays in the Ducklings! The Children decided to continue this celebration outside by making birthday cakes in our mud kitchen, singing happy birthday and decorating the cakes. Fantastic fun!
