Recognising numbers and counting out.
We have been seeing if we know what numbers are for. We have named the numbers we recognise and counted out that number of bears from a larger group.
It is very tricky keeping the number in our head and stopping at the given amount, it is also hard to make sure we give each bear a number…

Using our sense of smell
This week we are learning about our sense of smell. We blind folded the children (if they wanted) and got them to smell 5 different things and asked them what they thought it was or reminded them of. The 5 smells were, vinegar, sweet chilli sauce, Worcestershire sauce, jam and ginger. We got some…

Cutting herbs and paper
Today we have had a go at cutting up herbs and along lines on paper. A lot of us tried to cut holding the scissors in two hands and needed support in how to hold them correctly. It is a very tricky skill to learn and we need to build up the strength in our fingers to enable us to open and close…

Quantities
We have been looking at quantities in a practical way and seeing if we can recognise which set has more or less in it and how we can change the amount by taking some away or adding more. We are getting good at using the language of quantities such as, loads, lots, more, less, fewer.

Little Chicks Gardening
This afternoon we have been preparing the vegetable beds, digging the soil over and breaking it up ready for planting. The soil was very hard but the children gave it a good go and learnt how to use the spades safely.

Little Chicks mark Making
We have been tracing over dotted lines and looking at how the children hold their pencil or crayon and how much control they have over it. To help the children achieve the correct pencil hold we place the pencil on the table with the point facing them, we then get them to use their pinching…

Crowns
In the story 'What the Ladybird Heard on Holiday', Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh were trying to steal the Queen's crown. We made our own crown's this morning. The children had to concentrate to cut along a zigzag line to create the crown shape. They then stuck on foil shapes as jewels. They all look…
