Weighing and Number bonds

This week we have been comparing the weights of two different objects using the balance scales.

We explored balancing the scales further by putting the number 5 numicon piece on one side and the children had to figure out how to make the scales balance, but there were no more number 5 pieces left!!

They had to apply their knowledge of how to compose 5 in different ways (from last week) to solve this. They were able to come up with lots of different ways to make 5, using the different numicon pieces and to balance the scales!
