What material in the best insulator for the inside of a Vikings' helmet?
In Hawks today, we used our Maths and scientific enquiry skills to find out which material would be best to insulate in the inside a Vikings' helmet.
What was your hypothesis? How did you test which material was the best? The did the results show? What was the conclusion?

My hypothesis was that the foil would be the best insulator so we tested each of the materials to find out the best one. It turned out that the Felt and Toilet Paper was the best insulators keeping the water warm from 83 degrees to 43 degrees.

I enjoyed the experiment. My idea is a pair of boots made out of wool, they could use the wool off there sheeps in their farms.

I thought the felt would keep the water the hottest because felt is thicker and more protective.
We tested which material was the best by testing the heat of the water every two minuets.
My hypothesis was wrong because the toilet paper kept the water going for the longest.

My hypothesis was that the felt was going to keep the water warm for a longer time because it is thicker and warmer. We tested which material was the best by checking on it every two minutes to see which got the lowest temperatures. In conclusion, the experiment showed me that some materials are better at keeping warm in cold weather and some are not.

I thought that the tin foil would be the best insulator but the results showed that toilet paper and fabric worked the best.

My hypothesis was that the felt would be the best because it thickest and fuzziest. In the end, the experiment concluded in toilet paper and felt in the lead at 43° and bin bags the were the worst. We figured this out by putting materials round containers full of boiling water and seeing what the temperatures were every 2 minutes

My favourite part of the experiment was when it came to the final column and we were waiting to see which material had won. It was between the toilet paper and the felt. Most of the people in class chose felt and so did I so I was hoping that felt would win. The previous column showed that felt was in the lead by one but the final temperature was 43oC for both of them. It was difficult writing the conclusion because I didn't know whether the hypothesis was right or wrong since the felt did have the warmest temperature but it tied with toilet paper. In the end I just wrote 'The results show that the hypothesis was partly correct'. It was a bit strange and I'm not sure how many people would understand that so I just put an explanation as to what I meant by 'partly correct'. I enjoyed the science experiment very much and I hope we will conduct another one this year.
