In Robins we have been very busy completing lots of exciting challenges linked to our topic, penguins, possums and pigs.

We had to help Ben the explorer decide on the best food to take on his trip to Antarctica, thinking about a healthy diet, weight and money. All the children thought carefully about their choices and used their addition skills to find a total weight.

On Wednesday the children were asked if they thought a person could make a birds nest as well as a bird can. The children were set a challenge of making a birds nest using natural materials. We decided that birds are very clever and we were extremely impressed at how they make their own nests.

Also as part of our topic we have been looking in more detail at insects and minibeasts. The Robins enjoyed making their very own bug hotel using a plant pot, leaves, sticks, soil and stones. Keep your eyes peeled for our Bug Hotel on the school yard.

We have thoroughly enjoyed Science week in Robins!

What was was your favourite activity in science week? What did you use to make a nest? Why do birds make a nest?  What did you put in your bug hotel? What insect would you like to see in your bug hotel?

My favourite bit about science week was talking about how the birds make their nests. Mummy and I tried to find birds nests in the trees near our house, I wish I could climb the trees so I can see the eggs but mummy said we are not to go near them. When I made my own nest I used grass, sticks, leaves and hay. We made a small nest but then I joined my nest to Adam and Jack's nests to make it bigger.
