What is PE?

A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in physical activity. It should provide children with opportunities to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness.
Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character to help embed values such as fairness and respect.

 

Why is it an important part of my child's learning?

PE is important because it allows every child to:
  • develop and excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • be physically active for sustained period of time
  • engage in competitive sport and activities
  • lead healthy and active lifestyles

 

What is my child learning in PE?

In Spring Term 2 your child will be learning:
  • Reception; Fundamental skills
  • Year 1 and Year 2; Dance for indoor sessions and throwing and catching skills for outdoor sessions.
  • Year 3 and Year 4; Dance. We will have dance linking to our topic and dance for our production. Doves will be swimming additionally.
  • Year 5 and Year 6; Gymnastics for indoor sessions. OAA (Outdoor Adventure Activities) for outdoor sessions. Hawks class will be learning throwing and catching skills.
In Spring Term 1 your child will be learning;
  • Reception; Fundamental skills
  • Year 1 and Year 2; Dance for indoor sessions and throwing and catching skills. 
  • Year 3 and Year 4; Gymnastics. Year 3 will have throwing and catching skills. Doves will be swimming additionally.
  • Year 5 and Year 6; Dance.
In Autumn Term 2 your child will be learning;
  • Reception; Fundamental skills
  • Year 1 and Year 2; Fundamental skills. Year 2 will have multi-skills sessions.
  • Year 3 and Year 4; Gymnastics. Owls class will be swimming additionally.
  • Year 5 and Year 6; Dance.
In Autumn Term 1 your child will be learning;
  • Reception; Fundamental skills
  • Year 1 and Year 2; Fundamental skills. Year 1 will have multi-skills sessions.
  • Year 3 and Year 4; Athletics. Owls class will be swimming additionally.
  • Year 5 and Year 6; Rounders.
