Week 1-2.

Herons have had a wonderful first few weeks looking at a variety of subjects.

In science the children have explored different materials, we went on a hunt around the playground to see what interesting materials we could find, any materials they found were recorded and labelled.

For English we have been writing sentences leading up to retelling the story of Vlad. Children have produced a story map of their own version of the story. Then they have improved their story by adding adjectives.

In maths the children have been focused on place value, exploring tens and ones. Using cubes to create tall towers of ten, and individual cubes to represent the ones.

We have been learning about The Great Fire of London in History, our class book is (Vlad and The Great Fire of London). Children have been looking at where the fire started and what the houses were like at this time.

Geography, we have labelled different parts of England including the capital of England and locating Blackpool on the map of England.

For RE we have been discussing what makes every person special and unique.

For art the children have produced a tonal ladder to practice their shading, to show understanding of light to dark. They then wrote a sentence on what they liked and how they would improve their work.

Note to parents:

Please can parents make sure that all cakes for fairy cake Friday are nut free, as we are a nut free school.

Thank you.
