Remembrance & Poetry Week in Kestrels

This week in Kestrels we have been looking at different types of poetry. We have explored haikus, kennings and limericks. We have also looked at rhyming couplets and narrative poetry.

We have had a go at writing our own version of each type of poetry. The poems the children wrote on the theme of Remembrance are wonderfully thoughtful and moving. They show the children understand the importance of the topic and why we mark the iccasion as we do each year.

The children’s highlight however was writing their own limericks. There are only so many words that rhyme with Cooper…..!

In our Maths we have been learning to use the written column method for multiplication which we can now use to multiply a 3-digit by a 1-digit number.

In Geography we have been using different map types to identify and label the different countries of Europe.

This week instead of Star of the Week we have been celebrating our Writer of the Half Term. Well done to Maisy who is our Writer of the Half Term for making great effort to improve all areas of her writing including creating some wonderful poetry.

Kestrels, please comment below and tell me your highlight of this week.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mr Cooper
