World War 2 Day!!
23 October 2015
World War 2 Day in Year 5 and 6 was such a success and the children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed this special occasion. The day began with all of the children arriving in to school dressed amazingly in their authentic costumes (please see photos on gallery to follow). Mr Cox, Miss Deane and Mrs Harding planned an array of carousel activities for the morning and part of the afternoon. These included; baking cakes (with rationed ingredients), making bunting, writing poetry about World War 2, learning the Jitterbug Dance, making and writing postcards to send home (for evacuated children) and experiencing a 'real life' Anderson Shelter. Each child took part in all of these activities. Not only did we all have lots of fun, but through these activities, the children were able to consolidate their learning of the experiences of children living through World War 2.
We finished our day with a traditional VE Day tea party, where we were able to show off our new dances and sing our favourite World War 2 songs. The children certainly did lift the roof before enjoying a nice cup of tea and a biscuit to round off the day. All of Year 5 and 6 displayed impeccable manners and behaviour throughout our event and are a true credit to Carleton Green!!
