Owls Maths Problem Solving Morning
6 February 2015
Tuesday 3rd February
This morning we were very busy solving mathematical problems and really getting our brains to think. The Owls worked so hard and
they enjoyed themselves too!
In class we had three tables with different problem solving activities, and we each tried every problem in a carousel motion
for the entire morning.
The first table had to estimate measures of capacity and then compare their guesses with the actual measurement! This was tricky.
Following this we used our number skills and measurement knowledge to work out capacity and weight worded problems.
The next table focused on 2D and 3D shapes and we had to sort them into a Venn diagram. We then used this activity to discuss
our shape knowledge. Next, we then had to solve tricky money problems!
The final table had a variety of number problems to solve and they had a choice of practical methods to solve the problems.
We then practiced our times table knowledge by playing multiplication dominoes, and we were then tested further with a
game of Countdown!
All of the children achieved their full potential, and worked together in teams. All in all, a successful and challenging morning.
Well done!
