Homework

Tuesday 6th December 2022

With all the excitement of the Christmas market, I didn't upload the latest information.

Last week, we enjoyed making the Christmas crafts and decorating our classrooms which now look really festive. We had fun creating our own poetry books and have been building on our knowledge of fractions. We are now starting our Mayan temples - thank you so much for all of the cardboard. We can't wait to show you what they are creating. Homework was uploaded onto Education City last Friday and this week's spellings were also shared with the children. Please could all children continue to access Times Tables Rock Stars every week to maintain speed and accuracy with their times tables knowledge. https://play.ttrockstars.com/ They should also use IDL weekly https://app.idlsgroup.com/

We have completed lots of exciting work this week. We have been creating our own back-stories for the 'Explorer' character, and in maths, we have been continuing our work on fractions. Your English and Maths homework is on Education City. Your spellings are also attached below. There are 4 groups. Everyone knows which group they are in. The test will be Friday 2nd December.

**In preparation for making our Christmas decorations, please could everyone bring in an empty and clean glass jar? Thank you so much to so many of you for bringing them in already. We would also appreciate any donations of pine cones, old artificial Christmas garlands, baubles, tinsel and ribbon that are no longer needed. We have received lots of cardboard too for our DT projects - thank you so much. You have some very organised children.

Don't forget, next Friday is our Christmas fair!

11.11.22

What a lovely first week back!

The children have demonstrated a superb attitude towards helping each other whilst learning about long division, and have also written some explanation texts about bees. During DT, they have been looking at the shapes and dimensions within a Mayan temple and will soon be creating models of their own. To enable this to happen, please could pupils bring in some empty, flat packed cereal boxes so that they can be stored in class.

Before half term, you all sent in bottles and buttons and our new poppy display is up. Please take a look at the fencing at the front of school.

Homework is on Education City and spellings are below. Have a lovely weekend.

14.10.22

This week, the children have completed their diary entries for a character from the novel, 'The Explorer'. Their work is full of emotion and excellent description - well done Falcons! In maths, the children have been using concrete resources to investigate prime, composite and square numbers. They have used this knowledge to help them with formal multiplication. In art, the children have really soared - they have been creating sketches of Mayan temples using 2 point perspective. They have shown great resilience and supported one another with really constructive feedback. They really are a wonderful class.

Thank you so much for sending in the bottles. These will be turned into poppies for a whole school display. We are also after some buttons for the centre of the poppies. If you have some spare and wouldn't mind the children using them, please send them in. As we will be using acrylic paint, pupils really need a T-shirt to cover their uniform. Many of you have already brought them in, thank you. The poppies will be done next Friday morning, so you have time to get them in.

Homework this week will be on Education City. If anyone has any difficulties with the work, please don't hesitate to let me know. Spellings are below.

Have a lovely weekend.

7.10.22

Another superb week from the children. They have been working hard building the skills to enable them write a diary entry based on our class novel and have manipulated counters to find factors of numbers. They also learned in science why wearing a blindfold stops you seeing - thank you to our kind volunteers! The netball skills demonstrated this week were very sharp - well done everyone! Next week, we will be preparing our contribution for a huge school display. To enable this to happen, please could pupils bring in an empty, clean, plastic bottle on Monday/Tuesday. If you have more than one, please do send them in - any size will do. We would also like to ensure uniforms stay protected and would ask that all pupils have an old large shirt/T-shirt to wear whilst painting. Homework is on Education City and should be completed by next Friday. Spellings can be found below. Please also try to read to an adult and access TTRS as often as possible. Have a lovely weekend.

30.9.22

This week has been quite exciting for our Year 5 and 6 children. We had a special 'Mayan Day' where they were taught the numbers 1-10 in Mayan, learnt about Mayan Gods, investigated the Mayan number system, and delved into the world of sacrifices. We were so impressed with the acting from each group. They were all quite enthused by what they learnt and wrote some excellent recounts today in the format of a diary entry. We have also moved on to learning about addition and subtraction in our maths lessons and will continue our understanding of numbers in practical lessons next week.

Homework is on Education City. Please can each child revisit the work if they do not achieve 80%. Spellings are attached below and will be tested next Friday. Have a lovely weekend.

23.9.22 This week in English, pupils have written some superb scene descriptions of the Amazon Rainforest and continued to learn about Central and South America in Geography. They have looked at rounding and negative numbers sin maths and started to perform experiments with shadows in science which we will continue next week.

Falcons Spellings 22-23

Homework is on Education City and now consists of online activities only - no worksheets for printing. Please could all children aim for a minimum of 80% for each activity to ensure they have understood the content. Spellings can be accessed via the link below - All pupils know which group they are in.

Over the next couple of weeks, please could all children ensure that they bring in an old T-shirt for our art and DT lessons that will be taking place throughout the year.

We have also had a few children not bringing coats to school. As the weather is so unpredictable, coats should be worn every day as we often take our learning outdoors.

Have a lovely weekend.
