Welcome Y3/4 Doves

Autumn Term 2017

Welcome to the Doves' Class Year 3 and 4. I am Mrs Harding, the class teacher supported by Mrs Noctor, our LSA.

We are at the start of a very exciting new academic year. To begin settling in to our first full week back, we learnt lots of facts about European architecture, paying particular attention to The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. I am so impressed with the children's models which they have made at home and we look forward to adding these to the display which we are creating near the art area. I just hope our class model turns out as well as the models the children have made at home. Watch this space!!

Homework for this first week is for the children to cover their homework books. Using wallpaper or wrapping paper usually works well so that they can take pride and ownership over their homework.

Starting from Monday 11th September, usual lessons will start; we will be focusing on Maths, English and Guided Reading in the morning, with Topic, Science and PE in the afternoons. For this half term, PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon where the whole of Year 3 and 4 will take part in a carousel of activities taught by Mr Cooper, Mr Boyd and myself. Within English we will be learning about Biographies to start with and in Maths, we will be focusing on Place Value. More information about topics taught this half term are on the handout I have given out. Hopefully you have all received a copy of this, along with the various consent forms (three in total; safer internet use, trips and photographs) to read, sign and return. However, if you don't have these, then please just ask and I can give you another copy.

Along side the children's own reading at home and school, we will be reading a class novel; The Twits. This will also include a study on the life of Roald Dahl within our biography work.

The children have all made a great start to the new academic year. I feel they have all settled in to their new class and (for most) their new routine extremely well. They are all polite, well-behaved children and I am looking forward to teaching them this year. Please keep checking the Class Page and Blog for updates and pictures of your child's learning. Any comments you would like to leave are very much appreciated.

Thank you for your support so far and I look forward to working with you all for the remainder of this academic year.

Best wishes

Mrs Harding
